I am honored to be part of this exhibition, with three works from my series Mid— displayed in conversation with photographers whose work I deeply admire, on view Feb 1 through July 20 at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. An artists’ discussion is scheduled for April 17.
“Great storytelling conveys a sense of place: it is as important as establishing characters, symbolism, and plot. The 10 artists featured in this exhibition weave together influences from music, fiction, history, folklore, and photography itself to tell compelling stories about people and communities shaped by the land they inhabit. Their intimate photographs focus on rural subjects in the Midwest, South, and Western United States, often challenging our preconceptions of these regions.”
